Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette: 4 looks 1 palette & Review

I decided to challenge myself, and only use my Chocolate bar palette for the entire week. I wanted to write a review on this, but a review is just not enough! I have to show you guys how this palette performs, and how many looks you can create with it. This week, I was able to come up with 4 different looks. They are all very neutral and wearable.

The palette doesn't include the names written on the packaging (and I lost the plastic sheet with the names on it, OF COURSE). To help my explanations of each look make more sense, I made this so you can see which shadow is which.

Monday:

To be honest, Mondays are horrible. This particular Monday was a little rushed, and I didn't have much time to do my makeup. Consequently, this eye makeup took me like .2 seconds. I basically took a blending brush, and threw salted caramel and amaretto in the crease. Then, I deepened things up a little with milk chocolate and haute chocolate. Finally, I patted creme brulee on the lid with a flat shader brush, and highlighted my brow bone with white chocolate. Obviously this is nothing revolutionary, but it's one of my go-to looks, it's effortless and pretty, and takes no time at all.

Tuesday:

Tuesday I had a little more time to do my makeup, thankfully! This is the most colorful look I've ever done with my chocolate bar palette, since it's really a neutral collection of shadows. Although I feel like this look would qualify as "colorful", it definitely leans more neutral and wearable.

To start out, I threw salted caramel in the crease (obviously it's the perfect transition!). Then I placed candied violet in the outer corner, and blended, I repeated this until it was built up to my liking. I built it up this way so that I wouldn't have any eye shadow fall down on my face, that's never any fun. After that, I went in with a flat shader brush and placed marzipan on the inner third of the lid. I did quite a long wing, and then deepened up the outer corner with candied violet and triple fudge. I finished eveything off my highlighting my brow bone with champagne truffle.

Wednesday:

This look was incredibly easy to achieve, I almost feel bad featuring it, but it's just so pretty!

First, I blended salted caramel throughout my crease, then I simply placed marzipan on my entire lid, and champagne truffle on top of it. I love the look of these shadows mixed together, it's gorgeous! To finish off the look, I just highlighted the inner corner and browbone with champagne truffle.

Thursday:

This is a very dramatic look, although the camera kind of washes it out. First, I took 3 different shades in the crease- salted caramel, milk chocolate, and semi sweet. Then I really deepened up the outer corner with black forest truffle. This falls out a lot because it is very glittery and pigmented, so if you need to do your eye shadow before your face makeup, go for it! I really took my time blending this out, just so it was seamless. The three crease shades I used made it a lot easier to blend out that harsh dark color. For the lid, I first put down creme brulee, then blended marzipan over top, to make a beautiful rose gold shade. I finished off the look with liquid liner, and a sweep of champagne truffle on the brow bone and inner corner.

Now let's get on to the review.

This palette retails for $49 and you can buy it here.

I received this palette as a gift almost a year ago, and it was my very first high end eyeshadow palette. This palette is amazing for anyone, but especially for the girl who doesn't already have any palettes. I feel like this is perfect for beginners, or for those who have been doing makeup for a while, because every eyeshadow you could need is in this palette! Many palettes I own are missing something- that perfect transition, a matte white, a perfect non-glittery highlight- and this covers all the bases. Even if I don't have any intention at all of using this palette in a look I'm doing, I usually end up pulling it out, because it just has all the basics that others lack.

One thing I would like to point out is that this palette is almost overwhelmingly neutral. Even the "pops of color" in this palette are somewhat muted and lean toward neutral. This isn't a bad thing at all, because like I said before, this has all the basics you need, and the basics are going to be neutral shades. If you tend to not wear brown eye looks, this is obviously not the product for you, since half the shades in this are brown. Although many of these are in the same color family, they are pigmented enough so that you are able to see a difference when they're on the eyes. If these weren't as pigmented, they might blend into a muddy mess, thankfully this is not the case!

In my opinion, if you're going to splurge on an expensive eyeshadow palette, it should be this one! There is a nice balance of matte and shimmer, and all the colors that this contains are very wearable and non-intimidating. You can take this palette from everyday natural looks, to dramatic evening looks easily.

Even though the packaging is a little "novelty" with the chocolate bar theme, it still feels luxurious, which I appreciate. There is quite a large mirror, which I use all the time. I'm not going to lie, it's mostly because while you use the mirror, you can smell the light, sweet chocolate-y smell. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it smells like chocolate!!

Overall, if you're a girl who loves to rock neutral eye looks, I think this palette is for you! It's pricey, but if you think you'll get good use out of it, it's worth it.

Until next time, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Review & Bonus Hack!

While I really love my affordable drugstore products, I also love to try higher end cosmetics. When I started this blog, I knew I wanted to focus heavily on affordable makeup, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to do any posts on expensive products. However, I know that before I buy a high end beauty product, I do as much research as I can before I buy it, it's so important to know what you're buying, especially when it's so expensive! This is why I am going to do a few reviews here and there on my more expensive makeup, because the more information you have before making a big purchase, the better!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Price: $38

Claims: Flawless, weightless full coverage for 15 hours. Natural looking, and buildable. Won't oxidize, or irritate sensitive skin.

Let me begin by telling you that I have owned this product since May, and yes, I still do own the box, and it is in pristine condition. I know this is mildly concerning. That said, since I have owned this foundation for so long, I have had a ton of time to put this to the test, and I am confident in how I feel about this stuff! Before I give you my full review, I'm just going to show a couple pictures, to let this product speak for itself.

This is my freshly washed face, at 9:00 a.m. Obviously I have acne, and a ton of scars from previous blemishes. On top of that, my face is very pale, so anywhere I get a blemish, my skin becomes extremely red, making it look worse than it is. The sunlight on my face is making my redness look less severe, so take that into consideration. This is just the canvas we're working with, to give you an idea.

Here, half my face is completely bare. The other half has one layer of ELDW, which was applied with a damp beauty sponge, and Urban Decay naked skin concealer. I want you to know that I literally placed a piece of tape down my face to get an even line, and it looked ridiculous. It felt very weird looking at myself like this! You can see the side with foundation looks overall more even, and my face actually matches my neck.

Here is another photo of the one layer of foundation, with nothing else. As you can see, it doesn't cover every blemish and scar, but I don't find that necessary. If I really wanted to, I could go in with concealer, but I don't want to risk my face becoming cakey- no one can pull off that look, especially me! Here you can see that while I get great coverage out of this foundation, it still doesn't look thick and unnatural looking. There is still life and radiance to the skin.

This photo was taken after my makeup was freshly applied, around 10 or 11 a.m. In person, you can still see some scars and blemishes, but like I said, I don't see a problem with that.

This photo was taken after 7 hours. I went to work, and did a little shopping, so nothing strenuous, but honestly, after 7 hours it looks just about the same as it did freshly applied! I do use powder on top of this, and set with a setting spray, but I didn't use a primer, I rarely do.

Here are swatches of the two shades I have in samples, they are both in the warm category. 1W1 is the shade I own in the full size, but I can sometimes make 1W2 work, if I mix it with a very pale foundation, or if I'm more tan than usual.

Now on to the review! Let's begin with the dreaded pros and cons list, shall we??

Pros:

* Full coverage
* Isn't thick or heavy
* Withstands anything! Heat, rain, war, you name it, it will last through it.
* Blends easily, and doesn't set too quickly, so you can work with it.
*Luxurious packaging. Honestly ladies, you get what you pay for, and you just can't get packaging like this at the drugstore.
* Wide shade range!! If you have a hard time finding your foundation shade, you can find it in this product.
*Doesn't break me out.

Cons:

*No pump *sigh*
* Expensive
* Glass packaging makes me nervous, because I'm a klutz.

This foundation is literal perfection if you ask me. I love that I can almost completely cover my blemishes and scars, and still feel fresh faced, and not like I have makeup caked on. I love to mix this with my favorite drugstore foundations, so I can get more coverage, and a better color match for my skin. This foundation is so buildable! It seriously never looks too heavy. Because of this reason, I sometimes get carried away and use a little too much, but that leads me to tell you my Double Wear hack!! *drum roll*

For just 2 dollars, you can stroll over to the Clinique counter and buy yourself a pump for your ELDW foundation! How amazing is that?!

This is a closer look of what the box looks like, so you can see what to ask for. Like I said, it only costs $2, compared to a MAC pump that is $10. This helps me have consistency when applying, so I only use two pumps for my entire face, or one pump when I'm mixing it with another foundation. It's also useful for making sure I don't use too much product, since it's so expensive, I don't want it to run out quickly! This is a more hygienic option for those of you who apply foundation from the bottle with your fingers, but as for me, I always pour it on my hand, so the pump mainly just helps me save product.

Well this concludes my review! I hope this was helpful for those of you interested in buying Double Wear, or for those of you looking for an affordable pump to put on your foundation bottle! I hope you all have a wonderful week, and if you have an questions or requests, leave them in the comments below!

Modesty: What's the Point?

Growing up in church, I knew that dressing modestly was right. At church, I saw moms and their daughters wearings long skirts, and tasteful dresses. I knew the pants I wore to school were not for church. When I went out to eat with my family, and I was wearing pants, I was always looking over my shoulder, afraid that someone from church would see me. When I was younger, I had the knowledge that dressing modestly was right, I just didn't understand why.

The problem was, I had been preached at over and over again about what to wear and what not to wear, but I'd never been told why we dress modestly. As a child, my parents and grandparents bought me pants and shorts to wear, and never put any modesty standards in my life. Once I reached the age where I realized that none of my friends at church wore pants like me, I was very confused. Why did they dress that way? Why was the way I was dressing considered bad? If it was so bad, why did my family buy me these clothes?

Every time this subject of modesty was brought up in church, I listened intently for answers. I was given none. The preacher would say it was wrong for a woman not to dress modestly, get on his soap box about wearing pants, and then move on to another subject. This left me even more confused, and sad. I already knew modesty was right, I just didn't know why. Without having understanding, how could I develop any convictions?

Once I grew into my preteen years, I grew increasingly aware, not to mention guilty, about the way I was dressing. I wanted so badly to have the courage to throw away all my pants, and only dress modestly, but I couldn't. The only thing stopping me from making the right decision was me. I had friends that had only ever seen me in my immodest clothes, and I was afraid of what they would say. I don't believe anyone would have made fun of me, that's not what I was afraid of. I was afraid of the questions that would be asked. If anyone would have asked me why I had changed the way I dressed, I would have no idea what to say. Once again I was faced with this problem of having knowledge without understanding, and I was frustrated beyond belief. If I didn't even know why it was right, why should I do it?

Going into my teen years, I moved to a new state. I saw this as my chance to change my wardrobe. I got rid of all my pants, shorts, short skirts, and sleeveless tops. My family had barely enough money for groceries when we moved to Texas, so all my cute immodest clothes were replaced with any modest thing I could find in my size at the thrift store. I wouldn't have had it any other way either, I felt so happy, like a burden had been lifted. That is, until the very first person asked me why I always wore skirts. I told them "Oh, it's a religious thing.". They seemed satisfied with the answer, though I wasn't. I lived in fear of more questions. If someone else were to come along and inquire more, someone who wouldn't be satisfied with such a vague response, I would have no idea what to say.

During this time, I was under extreme pressure to go back to wearing pants, but the truth is, no one was pressuring me but myself. As an introvert, I really don't like to have the attention on me, I would much rather stay in the background. Wearing long skirts in a public school made me stick out like a sore thumb, there was no way I could go unnoticed. I knew that if I would just go buy a pair of jeans, no one would bother me or notice me anymore, and I wouldn't have to be afraid of people asking questions. In retrospect, I'm so grateful that I had gotten rid of all my immodest clothing, because if I hadn't, I would have started wearing them again.

I faced this constant pressure to go back to my old ways because I still had knowledge with no understanding. I thought that just dressing modestly would ease my guilty conscience, but because I still didn't understand why I was doing it, I had no real conviction, and I was always tempted to go back.

Fast forward a couple years to July 9, 2012, and something miraculous happened in my life- I accepted Christ as my Savior and got saved!! Nothing else in my life will ever compare to that moment, it was the very best day of my life, without a doubt. Finally, I had accepted Christ, and that's when I began to realize why it was important for me to dress modestly.

I don't know why all of you dress modestly, or if you think it's an important part of Christianity, but the reason I dress modestly is to represent my Savior. It's not to appease my authority, or to keep men from looking at me, or so I won't have a guilty conscience- I dress modestly so I can represent my God in a positive way, because He deserves nothing less. I don't know about you, but representing the Lord is not something that I take lightly. After I got saved, I finally came to know God personally. How was I supposed to have conviction about representing God positively by dressing modestly, when I didn't even know Him?

When I dress modestly, I know that I'm representing God correctly because people can see that something is different about me just by seeing me. I think this is a very special thing. I mean, think about it, if a group of christian men and ladies walk into a restaurant, no one in the restaurant would know that they were different if they were just looking at the men, because they look the same as every other man in the restaurant. The only way you would know he was different is if you sat down and had a conversation with him. However, if you look at a modestly dressed lady, you automatically know she's different, without even having a conversation. That is a great tool that we have, ladies! When we are dressed modestly, our testimony precedes us.

In my own life, I have seen this proved many times. For instance, when I dressed immodestly in public school, people wouldn't think twice about having a bad conversation in my presence. After all, I looked just like everyone else, why would I have a problem with it? However, when I dressed modestly in public school, many times people that didn't even know me would apologize for swearing while I was around. I had never spoken to them in my life, how could they know that I would have a problem with swearing? They could tell there was something different about me because of the way I was dressed.

Now that I have understanding and the convictions that go with it, I am confident in why I am dressing the way I do. I know what it's like to feel guilty about the clothes I'm wearing, and I don't ever want to go back. I no longer feel frustrated and confused, I feel confident and comfortable in the clothes I wear. I feel beautiful because I'm representing Christ in the way He deserves.

I know it might sound crazy, but I'm so incredibly grateful for this journey I've taken to dressing modestly. It's easy to wish I was just raised to dress this way, and forced to only wear modest clothing, but I'm glad I wasn't. I know way too many girls who were raised in homes where their parents forced them to dress modestly, and now that they can choose for themselves, they don't. I had to find out for myself why it is important to dress modestly, and although it was frustrating at times, I finally understand, and I have developed convictions that aren't going to go anywhere- because they are mine. They aren't my parent's, or my pastor's, they're mine, and they're here to stay.

I don't always have to cutest clothes, and I certainly don't always know how to put an outfit together- I'm horrible at it! I can't mix prints for anything, and colorful outfits scare me to death. I didn't start this blog because I'm good at fashion, I started this blog because I'm passionate about dressing modestly to represent my Savior, and I want to let other ladies know that you can feel confident and beautiful while being a light for Christ. There are so many different areas that we can be an example as Christians, and modesty can be such a big part!

I know this post was a lot more personal than usual, but I wanted to share my heart with you a little bit, and show you a little glimpse of my past. I hope you guys are having a wonderful week so far, and that you have a productive day today. I appreciate all of your kind comments so much, thank you all for being so sweet!

August Birchbox Unboxing & Reviews

Well guys, I am falling more and more in love with my Birchbox subscription! This month was another winner, and as of right now, I don't know if I'll be cancelling my subscription anytime soon.

You can sign up for your own $10 subscription here.

In this months box, you'll notice some of the products are aimed at my skin type. This is because I personalized my profile, so Birchbox sends me products tailored just for me! If you sign up for the box, don't forget to customize your profile so you can get products specific to your needs, it is no extra charge of course, and you'll be much happier with your purchase.

St. Tropez
 Gradual Tan in Shower
Full size- $25

Let's begin with the largest sample! I have never used a self tanner like this one before, it's unique because you use it in the shower, to help get an even coverage. This has a weird, floral fragrance, that lingers on the skin. It kind of smells like old, expensive soap. The idea is, you cleanse your entire body, turn of the water, put on this self tanner, wait 3 minutes for it to develop, then turn on the water and wash it off. Now, I'm just going to keep it real and tell you guys that this seemed super weird to me. What do you do for 3 minutes standing in the shower? You stand there feeling very uncomfortable and cold, that's what.

I mean it's a great idea and all, and it did leave me about half a shade darker, with a nice glow, but it wasn't the most fun time of my life. Also, the old people soap scent lingers all day long! Would I purchase? Probably not. I'll stick to self tanners that are used outside of the shower.

Oribe Apres
 Beach Wave and shine spray
Full size- $22

This worked really nicely! I have very thin hair, and every time I try to get those "just left the beach" waves, it just doesn't last. My hair ends up looking limp, and tangled every time. This helps me achieve those beautiful, summery locks, and it really does hold it in place! This adds a grip to my hair that I don't naturally have, so it's also great for putting in my hair before styling, so it holds it's shape. It also smells great, which is always a plus. I did need to use a lot though, so I don't know how long this sample will last me. I wouldn't purchase something like this myself, because it's not something I would use that often.

Shea Terra Organics
Rose Hips Black soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser
Full size- $16

Okay guys, my Birchbox subscription has finally paid off, because I've found my new face wash! As soon as this sample runs out, I'm going to buy the full size of this, it's everything I've ever wanted and more.

The consistency of this face wash is a little odd, in fact, everything about this face wash is odd! First of all, it looks like molasses. Oh and it smells like the food you feed to the fish at the zoo, I'm not kidding. Also, when you use this, you have to let it sit on your face for five minutes, like a mask. It's so weird, and so wonderful. I've used this four times now, and I'm head over heels!

I love black soap for washing my face, and this is an even more pure version. This cleans your face, while still leaving it feeling moisturized. You can also mix it with sugar, or baking soda to make a scrub. I've done this once, and I loved it! Like I said, I've only used this four times, and I've already seen a difference in my skin!

Side Note: I'm going to buy this on the Birchbox website so I can save money. Every time you receive your birchbox, you have the opportunity to review each product. For every review you write, you get 10 points, and 10 points is $1.00 in Birchbox's online store! Right now, I have $15 worth of points, so I can buy this on Birchbox's website for $1!

Balance Me
Congested Skin Serum
Full size- $30

This serum is working wonderfully for my skin, if it weren't $30, I would probably purchase this! This smells a lot like lemongrass, and it leaves my skin feeling a little sticky at first, but it sinks into the skin pretty quickly. This doesn't irritate my skin at all, in fact, I think it's been helping heal my blemishes! I am very satisfied with this sample, since it is targeted specifically for my skin type! Also, it's 99% natural, so I felt comfortable adding it into my skincare routine.

The Balm
Desert Bronzer/Blush
Full size- $21

This looks like just a bronzer in the pan, but once you put it on your face, you instantly see the rosey, bronzey glow it gives! This is perfect for summer, especially if you're not a big blush girl like me. I actually skip blush 75% of the time, because I don't always want a flushed look. This adds a hint of rosey-ness, but it stills gives a bronzed look overall. I think the size of the sample they give you is great, and since you don't need that much product, I feel like this will last me a month at least!

I'm super excited about the last two boxes I've gotten from Birchbox, and I'm going to continue purchasing! The samples I've received have been substantial in size, and I've gotten a lot of use out of every single one. I love the rewards system they have, so if I want to buy a full size product, I can save some money. Overall, I'm an incredibly happy customer, and I would definitely recommend you try this subscription box out!

If you guys decide to buy a box next month, or if you received this months box, please let me know what you think about it, I would love to know! Until next time, I hope you guys have a wonderful week :)

Classy Stripes OOTD

Yes, it's 100+ degrees in Texas, and I am crazy for constantly wearing blazers. I just can't help myself!! Luckily fall is rapidly approaching, it really can't come soon enough.

You'll probably notice my outfits consist of a lot of neutrals, with one pop of color. This is just a fool proof look for me, and it really helps me a lot when picking out my outfits. You also might notice I own a lot of colored skirts, this helps me to have variety in my wardrobe!

I started purchasing more colored skirts about a year ago, because while a nice classic black skirt is great, it can become blasé when you wear it with every outfit. Owning skirts in different, fun colors makes it incredibly easy to put together cute outfits.

Skirt & Peplum top - JCPenney; Shirt is Bisou Bisou brand, skirt is Worthington

Shoes & Blazer - Target; Both are Mossimo brand

For my makeup, I went with sort of a "daytime smokey eye". I worked with a lot of cool, gray tones, so it was smokey without being dark or dramatic. I mean you can't really see what my eye makeup looks like because my obnoxious lashes are in the way, but I guess you can take my word for it. Speaking of lashes, I'm trying out a new mascara (story of my life, right?), this one is L'Oreal telescopic shocking extensions.

Thank you guys so much for taking some time to read this, I really appreciate it, as always!! I'll be back Monday with a new post, until then, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Huge Clearance Makeup Haul- Nothing over $4!

This past week, I have done a TON of shopping, and spent almost nothing! I'm writing this post not only because I am I proud of myself, but also because I'm anxious to tell you guys about what I've found, and where you can get the same good deals!!

On this particular day, at the beginning of the week, they had a grocery cart FULL of mascaras marked down to 50% off! I couldn't pass this deal up! Because I really have no need for more mascara, I only bought the ones I've heard amazing reviews about, or have been wanting to try out or repurchase. I'm going to keep these closed for now, and open them up after I've finished some of the mascaras I'm currently using.

Well that wraps up my clearance makeup haul. To be honest, I know there will be many more of these in the future. I'm always searching out the best makeup deals, I can't go into a store without looking at makeup, and rummaging through clearance bins to find a great deal. The more money I save, the more makeup I can buy. And the more makeup I buy, the more makeup I can try out!
